Featuring more than 100 one-of-a-kind creations to covet, “Imperishable Beauty: Art Nouveau Jewelry” is a window into a short yet tumultuous age of change when artists - and the customers who bought their work - adopted a new style in their quest to forge a new aesthetic.

Bead Trends Magazine

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

For you bead and jewelry retailers…

I just signed up for a free sample copy of the new Bead Trends magazine. The announcement that they sent out looks good, and I’m excited to see how it looks “in person”! If you want to view a few pages that they emailed in their newsletter, click here. I can’t read much of the text, other than the table of contents, but the photos look great! You’re supposed be a retailer in order to get a free sample copy, according to their email. They do charge a shipping fee of $4.10 for the sample issue, so you will be out a little bit for the magazine. The magazine retails for $17.95, with wholesale pricing available for retailers, should you decide you want to carry the magazine on the shelf. I’ll report back with a review, after I receive my copy.

A couple of online sources

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

I ran across a couple of interesting webpages this morning, and thought I’d share.

First is Miland Jewelry Tools. They sell some hard-to-find jewelry tools, and their website has some demos of the tools in use…makes it easy to see if they’ll do what you need. I may have to add a couple of things to my Christmas list!

Next is an intro to Lost Wax Casting, by Ernie Herrick of Emporia, Kansas. If you’ve been thinking about giving casting a try, then take a look!

Belated Happy Halloween!

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

This is a bit belated, but Happy Halloween! The air was crisp, and the sky was clear here last night. It was absolutely perfect for trick-or-treating, and left no doubt that it’s finally Fall. We had LOTS of trick-or-treaters this year, and actually ran out of candy…and I bought a lot of candy. There were some great costumes, including many that were homemade. Very impressive! The kids were all ages, but I noticed more toddlers out with their parents, than in many years. The neighborhood was well-lighted, both with street lights and lighted decorations on the houses…yes, I put up Halloween lights. I think I’ll leave the lights up for Thanksgiving (since they’re orange, green and purple), and replace the jack-o-lantern with a turkey or cornucopia. I guess it’s back to the craft store for me!
